if oscar to mclaren is true someone owes daniel ricciardo one hell of an apology, firstly for making him feel like he had a seat whilst knowingly negotiating with piastri, secondly for letting this all play out publicly and lastly for the way he's been their scapegoat for 2 years

Though, now he and the team will have to agree on a settlement involving a substantial pay-off in order for him to walk away at the end of this season.
Ricciardo also seems understood and he has no interest in moving sideways into the team’s Formula E Programme. He seemed to be determined to find another seat in F1.
The working team is confident in their decision to hang on to Piastri despite Alpine’s claim that it has a valid contract with the youngester for 2023.
Earlier, this Tuesday, the Enstone team made an announcement to that effect and it was subsequently challenged by Piastri on social media.
Reportedly, it is believed that Piastri’s ability to walk away from Alpine is totally based on a claim that his 2023 deal with the team wasn’t signed properly.
This dispute took another whole level as it is set to go to the Contract Recognition Board, although there are some questions of whether Alpine actually lodged a contract with CRB that covered 2023.
Now the news of McLaren’s possibility to hire Piastri started to explore the internet several weeks ago as it looked for possible replacement for Ricciardo.
McLaren team’s principal Andreas Seidl is close to Oscar’s manager Mark Webber and he had worked with him in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
During that time, Piastri was set to go to Williams on a loan deal that would see his return to Alpine in 2024 or possibly 2025.
However, now as McLaren showed an interest, it looked like Piastri could be a free agent for 2023, and as all the woking outfit seen as a step for Williams, negotiatons became more serious.
Meanwhile Ricciardo is clearly high on the list of possible replacements although he upset the Renault top management when agreed with McLaren move.
Though there are times when pay-off deals like one Ricciardo is set to receive can be impacted by the driver concerned finding a seat elsewhere.
Back in the end of 2009, when Kimi Raikkonen dropped by Ferrari, he had to spent 2 years out if F1 in part so he could retain the full amount.
However, given the situation, it is understandable that there are sums involved required to satisfy Ricciardo’s orginal deal.
As per his orginal deal, one scenario is that even if he lands as a driver elsewhere he may end up still being paid from McLaren for not to race for their team in 2023. McLaren whose net worth stands at $50 takes home $15 million in annual salary currently.
