Before accpedting the new role at AlphaTauri, Daniel Ricciardo was the test driver for Red Bull and reportedly earned around $6 million per year. Daniel was earning $60,000 per day just for helping Red Bull with their promotional events. The new salary at AlphaTauri seems very underwhelming for Ricciardo considering that he received a $15 million contract at McLaren.

Moreover, Haas even offered him a new contract worth $7 million before he chose to join AlphaTauri.  In the past as well, Daniel Ricciardo once had a whopping salary worth $27 million with Renault alongside $2 million in endorsements. During that time, he was the 48th highest-paid athlete in the world.

Daniel Ricciardo started out his Formula 1 career in 2011 with Toro Rosso, and eventually joined Red Bull. During his time with Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo managed to win a couple of races but soon moved on to Renault. However, Renault left the Formula 1 competition, and Ricciardo then joined McLaren. However, he had a tough time at McLaren alongside Lando Norris and he was let go after his contract ended last year.

As such, Ricciardo reached out to Red Bull principal Christian Horner for a chance to become the reserve, test, and third driver for Red Bull Racing. Ricciardo spent six months on the role without any Formula 1 action. However, much to his delight, AlphaTauri handed him a new contract that will last until the end of 2023. If Daniel plays his cards right, he could eventually get a contract extension or a new contract with another team.
