Since joining the team in September 1961, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have grown to be one of the NFL’s most recognisable cheerleading groups. The squad has long been praised by spectators for the creativity and athleticism displayed in their gameday routines as it is managed by director Kelli Finglass, a former cheerleader for the club who has held the position since 1991.

With her team, Finglass runs a tight ship that places a strong focus on physical condition and the capacity to perform with a high degree of showmanship. As reported by Daily Star, she stated:

First and foremost, [applicants] have to be trained dancers or have great showmanship as performers. Our squad is an elite group of dancers and there’s no getting past that.”

She further said:

As far as conditioning, a game is three solid hours of nonstop. We have about 150 musical elements played throughout the game and the girls dance to every one of them.”

They have eight rookies on their 2023 team, including Brooklyn Davis and Kennedy Hannan, while longtime members Kelcey Wetterberg and Chandi Dayle are still there.

Dallas Cowboy cheerleader recruitment is not a simple process, as evidenced by the reality television programme “DCC: Making The Team,” which was created to maintain the cheerleading programme after the introduction of COVID-19 in 2020. Before moving on to a multi-step procedure that included the semi-final, in-person interview, written test, and final talent auditions for candidates, hopefuls could upload online videos of their dance.
