Curtis Campher, Ireland’s fast paced bowler got four wickets in four balls to beat the Netherlands by 7 wickets in a first round match of the ICC T20 World Cup. Campher made Colin Ackermann (11), Ryan Ten Doeschate (0) and Scott Edwards (0) go back with a superb hat-trick, after which he bowled over Roelof van der Merwe (0) in classic fashion in Abu Dhabi.

It is an astounding achievement for Campher as he becomes only the third bowler in T20 International history to enjoy the feat after Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga. What might come as something more surprising is that Campher is only 22-years old and has already hit a record to remember.
He is also the second player with a hat-trick in the men’s T20 World Cup after Australia’s turbo Brett Lee, who earned that title against Bangladesh in the inaugural edition back in 2007.

22-year old Campher was born in Johannesburg and raised in South Africa where he was a national Under-19 side player. However, he decided to leave South Africa and moved to Ireland in early 2020 in order to play for the Irish national team. Campher was taken to the Ireland Wolves’ Tour to Namibia in the early stages of 2020 and managed to dazzle enough to win a place in the squad for a three-match ODI series in England in July.
Campher proved his mettle as an all-rounder by hitting half-centuries in his first two international innings. He also bowled over Tom Banton with his fourth ball on debut- whom he had trapped lbw before, while playing against him for South Africa U-19s.
Campher then went on to take some more wickets in Ireland’s popular victory in the third match of the same series. Andrew Balbirnie, captain of the Iris national team is of the opinion that the 22-year old is a great person to captain. The right-handed batsman and right-arm medium fast bowler hopes to move up the batting order to be in the top-six.
