The Arsenal vs Crystal Palace game was nothing short of an absolute thriller as Alexandre Lacazette managed to grab a stoppage-time point for Arsenal. It was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who had scored the opener for Arsenal as well as the first goal of the match in the first-half.

However, Patrick Vieira’s boys Odsonne Edouard and Christian Benteke were the saviours for Palace in the second half as they almost secured a victory over Arteta’s Arsenal.

James McArthur Escapes Red Card After Tackle On Bukayo Saka

Mikel Arteta was furious with the VAR’s decision of not giving James McArthur a straight red for kicking Bukayo Saka in the back of the calf in the first half of the game. Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville also analysed McArthur’s tackle and both were of the view that the Palace midfielder was lucky to not have gotten a red card.

Lacazzette came on as a substitute and scored the equalizer in extra time which was enough to send the Gunners’ fans in a frenzy at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal boss Arteta said that Saka was ‘very sore’ after he was kicked in the back of the calf by McArthur. While clearing the ball in the 43rd-minute, the 20-year old English national was fouled by McArthur after which he tried to shake off the pain but had to eventually be substituted. It was Albert Sambi Lokonga who came on in Saka’s place just before the half-time whistle.

Arteta was very upset with the video assistant referee’s decision who stuck with Mike Dean’s on field call to give McArthur a yellow for such a vicious foul. Saka was forced to watch the rest of the game from the bench.

Upon being asked about his condition, Arteta said that Saka had to be taken off as he could not continue. He also seems uncertain about the 20-year old’s involvement in Arsenal’s game against Aston Villa which is scheduled for kick-off on Friday.

“We’ll see how it evolves. He could not continue and he’s a young boy that is pretty tough and wants to keep playing, but he could not carry on,’’ Arteta said.
