The final results of the Ballon d’Or 2023 are finally out and fans can check out how Cristiano Ronaldo placed in the rankings this year 

Much to the delight of football fans worldwide, Argentine legend Lionel Messi won a record- eighth Ballon d’Or this year at the 2023 awards ceremony in Paris, October 30.

Messi’s sensational Qatar World Cup win with Argentina, and the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain was enough to secure him the prestigious award.

In the process, Lionel Messi managed to receive more votes than Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland. Following the win, Cristiano Ronaldo is now three behind his long-time rival. However, the Portuguese legend did manage to win the Puskas Award. The award is given out to a player judged who scored the most aesthetically significant or “most beautiful” goal of the calendar year.

Over the years, Ronaldo has received 19 consecutive Ballon d’Or nominations featured onto the shortlist every single year since he was 19 years old. Earlier this season, Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Al Nassr to play in the Saudi Pro League just a few weeks after his Portugal side got knocked out of the Qatar World Cup. He scored a whopping 34 goals in 39 matches for the Saudi team. Ronaldo also led Al Nassr to their first-ever Arab Club Champions Cup after scoring a brace in the final match against Al Hilal. Despite these achievements, he failed to make the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist this year for the first time since 2003.
