The favourite to take home the 2024 Ballon d’Or is Jude Bellingham. This is according to bookmakers Betfair, who have the superstar from Real Madrid posted at 7/2 to collect the prize after his triumph at the 2023 event.
The Kopa Trophy for the world’s greatest player under 21 was won in Paris by Bellingham, a 20-year-old English player. Bellingham scored 14 goals for Borussia Dortmund in 42 games, and he assisted England in making it to the World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar. In addition, he’s had an incredible start to his Real Madrid career, having scored 13 goals in 13 games after signing on, including a game-winning brace in his debut El Clasico.
The another name is Erling Haaland. In his first season in the English Premier League, Haaland broke numerous records with 36 goals, surpassing the previous record held by Andy Cole (34) and Alan Shearer (34) for almost thirty years.
Perhaps the most obvious successor to Ronaldo, Messi, and company is the prolific Norwegian, who became the first player to win both the Premier League player and young player of the year titles in the same season.
Not naming Kylian Mbappe in the list would be a crime. After scoring a hat-trick for France in the World Cup final and leading Ligue 1 goalscorer for French winners PSG, Mbappe finished third in 2023 behind Messi and Erling Haaland.
The Frenchman has scored twelve goals in twelve outings for PSG so far this season. In the summer, he plans to compete for international gold with France.
