He was 88 years old. Durani had the looks of a movie star, displayed a sarcastic sense of humor, and could hit huge sixes whenever he wanted.

Sources close to the family said that he had died. Durani had been living in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with his younger brother Jahangir Durani at the time of his death.

Salim Durani, who was born in Kabul, played an important role on the Indian cricket team in the 1960s and early 1970s. Also he was a well-known all-rounder who was known for his strong batting and orthodox left-arm bowling. Durani played 29 Test matches for India, scoring 1,202 runs with an average of 25.04 over the course of his long and successful career. In his career, he also had a century and seven half-centuries.

Salim Durani took 75 wickets with his bowling, and 6/73 was the best number he ever got in an inning. When he was dropped from a test series once, fans chanted, “No Durrani, no test.”

Durani did his best work when India beat England 2-0 in a historic series in 1961-1962. He was a big part of the wins in Calcutta and Madras, where he took eight and ten wickets, respectively. From 1960 to 1973, Durani stood out because he could hit the ball so hard that it went into the stands. He was one of a kind because he could end the game with either the bat or the ball.

Durani did well in cricket, but he also tried his hand at Bollywood. In 1973, he was in the movie Charitra with the well-known actor Praveen Babi. As a cricket legend and a Bollywood star, Durani will continue to inspire people in India and all over the world. While he was rumored to be dating Praveen Babi, he denied the reports and was unmarried throughout his life.

Durani was the first ever cricketer to win the Arjuna Award and in 2011, he was honoured with the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award by the BCCI.

After breaking his thigh bone in a fall in January of this year, Durani had surgery to fix the proximal femoral nail. His health had been dwindling since with him dying on April 2, 2023 from a prolonged illness. His death leaves a void in Indian cricket, and people will always remember his contributions to the sport.
