Karuna played for India between 2004 and 2014, featuring in five Test matches, 44 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and nine Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Altogether, she amassed a total of 195 runs in ODIs, 987 runs in Tests and 9 runs in T20Is.
When she was 12, her brother – a former league cricketer – introduced her to cricket. “I would go to his school and college matches,” she had said when talking about how she took up the game.
“My family being the biggest support and my brother being a cricketer himself made it easy and challenging for me to adopt the game and deliver the best in every time I stepped onto the grounds. I could continue to play the sport and contribute for a very long time because of unflinching support and sacrifices done by them,” the player from Bengaluru said as she annnounced her retirement.

Karuna Jain, whose full name is Karuna Vijaykumar Jain, was born on September 09, 1985, in Bangalore, Karnataka. She is currently 36 years and 319 days old and stands at 5 feet 6 inches.
Karuna, also known as Karu Jain, is a right-handed batter and wicketkeeper. Throughout her career, she has played for the Indian Women’s team, the Karnataka Women’s team, and the South Zone Women’s team.
Career overview
Karuna Jain made her debut in 2004 in an impressive manner against the West Indies, where she scored 68 not out. With this, she was just the fifth Indian woman who managed to make a fifty in an ODI debut.
The following year, Jain was part of the 2005 Women’s World Cup squad as a back-up wicketkeeper. India finished runners-up that year.
Later that same year, Karuna helped India beat England in a 4-1 series. She scored a century in the final game of that series, which was one of her career highlights.
During that time, only Mithali Raj had scored a hundred in women’s cricket, making her the second youngest Indian woman. Karuna also captained a Young India side while on a tour to Pakistan between those two senior events.

Jain peaked her career when she got to play in the Women’s World Cup in 2013 and the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2014. Throughout her career, she represented Team India in 44 ODIs, 5 Tests, and 9 T20Is from 2004 to 2014.
