Who was Farhaan Behardien & Why he announced Retirement?
Farhaan Behardien was born on 9 October 1983 at the Transvaal Province of Johannesburg and with his best efforts, he managed to earn his place in the South African men’s cricket team. Before making his country debut, Behardien first played for Western Province in 2004. The legendary African all-rounder earned his T-20 debut in 2012 against India and ironically, his last ODI was also against India.
His height stands at 5 feet 7 inches and he played for Punjab in the IPL. His net worth stands at $2 million with him earning $200,000 annually playing in T20 leagues. While he is dating someone, his girlfriend’s name is not known.
In his retirement announcement, Behardien revealed that it had been a remarkable journey of cricket for him, which saw him bag 17 titles across 18 years and 560 appearances. He also expressed his regards to his family and friends, who had supported him throughout his career. For his South Africa debut, Behardien had to wait eight years and owing to his string of stellar performance, he quickly established himself as a regular for his country in test matches. During his tenure as a cricketer, he usually assumed the role of right-handed batsman and right-handed bowler, which made him the ideal all-rounder.
Behardien played for the Proteas in 59 ODIs and 38 T20Is throughout the course of his career, totaling 1592 runs and taking 17 wickets overall. The all-rounder competed in the 2015 Cricket World Cup along with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2012, 2014, & 2016. Later, Behardien also had the chance to lead his nation when Sri Lanka visited South Africa in January 2017 for a three-match T20I series.
