COVID 19 Delhi Lockdown Guidelines News: Unlock 2 Sees Markets And Malls Open, Sports Complexes And Gyms To Remain Shut

Delhi will continue to slowly unlock after a more than one month lockdown ensuing a mutltiude of Coronavirus cases

After more than a month of seeing a blanket lockdown in the capital city, Delhi is once again set to open up and resume normal activity.

Delhi Lockdown Sees New Respite

Starting Monday, unlock 2 in the capital will see economic activity be further escalated. The Chief Minister of the incumbent government in the city in a press conference on Saturday announced a slew of activities which will be allowed to once again resume.

After construction and manufacturing activity was allowed to resume at full scale last week, the forthcoming week will now see markets, malls and offices also be opened up. Markets and malls have been allowed to open on an odd-even basis whilst private offices have been asked to function with a maximum of 50% capacity with staggered timings.

Delhi Metro To Resume With 50% Capacity

Standalone shops will also allowed to open their shutters up with different guidelines being enlisted for them. The Delhi metro which was closed midway into the lockdown has also been allowed to get back on the tracks with 50% of trains allowed to function.

The Delhi Metro Cooperation announced that it would for now only be resuming with half of its trains. The frequency at each station would vary between 5-15 minutes depending on the congestion at a platform.

Delhi Unlock 2 Guidelines

The remainder of the stringent rules in place will continue to remain in place as the capital continues its lockdown. This sees sports complexes, swimming pools and gyms continue to remain out of bounds for the general public.

  • Shops and malls will be allowed to open on an odd-even basis from 10 am to 8 pm
  • Stand-alone shops allowed to operate at different times with different conditions
  • Private offices allowed to function with 50% employees. Group A employees of government offices will be allowed to function in full capacity while the Group B offices can allow 50% members
  • Metro to open with 50% trains

A string of migrant workers have started returning to the capital ensuing the latest development. A mass exodus was witnessed after the lockdown was announced, one which was initially promised to last only one week but is currently into its sixth week.

Delhi COVID Cases Dwindle

Delhi meanwhile on Saturday recorded its lowest number of COVID positive cases in the last couple of months. With a little over 400 cases, the city’s positivity rate stands at less than 1%, drastically down from the 36% it had reached.

Delhi has been one of the most severely impacted cities in India across the last year. The sitting AAP government has claimed that Delhi has already witnessed four waves of COVID as opposed to the second wave currently ongoing in the country.
