Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia will compete at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Friday and will be hoping to win his second straight gold medal. At CWG 2022’s wrestling competition, the current men’s 65 kg champion Bajrang Punia will start as the gold medal favorite.

2022 Commonwealth Games Wrestling Schedule, Date, Time, And Venue

A 12-person Indian wrestling squad, which will compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games will include Olympic medalists Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik. The Coventry Stadium and Arena will host two days of wrestling competitions in Birmingham. Among the other major gold medal prospects on the Indian team are Olympian Deepak Punia, world championships silver medalist Anshu Malik, and Asian champion Divya Kakran.

Ravi Dahiya, an in-form Olympic silver medalist, hopes to continue his winning ways at the CWG by capturing another medal. Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, two gold medalists from the 2018 tournament, intend to defend their respective titles. Only wrestlers from Canada and Nigeria are expected to compete against Indian grapplers. Vinesh is a medal contender despite recent physical and mental challenges and will be vying for her third consecutive gold medal at the CWG after winning in 2014 and 2018.

However, it will be difficult for the Indian wrestling squad to replicate the Gold Coast performance. Indian wrestlers competed in the CWG 2018 and won one medal in each of the 12 divisions. There were five gold medals total.
