At the Commonwealth Games 2022, Australian paddler Yangzi Liu defeated Indian paddler Sreeja Akula for the bronze medal in a hard-fought contest. After Sreeja won the first game, the Australian gained control of the match and never let the Indian player take the lead. After the 4-3 loss, Sreeja finished fourth in the women’s singles division of this CWG. However, the 24-year-old is guaranteed at least a silver medal in the mixed doubles division and has a chance to bag the gold when she will compete in the final on 8th August, 12:15 AM IST with Sharath Kamal as her partner.
Feng Tianwei persevered despite suffering from wrist, shoulder, and knee problems, and on Sunday, she was rewarded with a return to the top of the table tennis women’s singles podium at the Commonwealth Games. The 35-year-old successfully defended the title she won in 2010 and 2014 by defeating Zeng Jian, 25, in an all-Singapore final, 4-3 (6-11, 5-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5) after falling behind in the first three games.
