At the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Sunday, veteran Sharath Kamal won gold in the mixed doubles with Sreeja Akula and silver in the men’s doubles table tennis with Sathiyan Gnanasekaran.

2022 Commonwealth Games 2022 Commonwealth Games – Mixed Doubles Table Tennis Final Results, Score, And Medal Winners
Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula defeated the giant-killing Malaysian duo of Javen Choong and Karen Lyne in Birmingham on Sunday night to give India its first-ever mixed doubles gold medal at the Commonwealth Games as well as the second table tennis gold.
In the best-of-five-games final, Sharath and Sreeja defeated Choong and Lyne with a score of 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, and 11-6. After playing two matches earlier in the day, Sharath was content to let Sreeja take the lead while contributing steadily against a very inexperienced partnership. The contest was dominated by Sharath and Sreeja, who frequently scored. They made a few mistakes in the second game that caused them to lose it, but they easily overcame them to win the gold.
In the men’s singles, Sharath Kamal is also guaranteed a medal after defeating Paul Drinkhall 4-2 (11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8) to advance to the championship match. Meanwhile, National champion Sreeja Akula missed out on the bronze medal in women’s singles earlier in the day as Australian Yangzi Liu defeated the 23-year-old Sreeja 4-3 (11-3, 6-11, 2-11, 11-7, 13-15, 11-9, 7-11).
