At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Indian table tennis legend Sharath Kamal defeated second seed Liam Pitchford 4-1 (11-13, 11-7, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8) in the men’s singles final match and bagged the gold medal. Meanwhile, G Sathiyan bagged the bronze medal after defeating English paddler Greenhall in the play-off match.

2022 Commonwealth Games 2022 Commonwealth Games – Men’s Singles Table Tennis Final Results, Medal Winners, And Performance of Sharath Kamal
Gold medal match’s opening game was won by world No. 20 Pitchford thanks to a backhand slip by Sharath. The Indian ace, though, quickly found his rhythm as he put some excellent backspin on the Englishman’s serves, which combined with his flawless placement allowed him to easily win the following two games and take a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth game, Sharath jumped off to a quick 6-1 lead, and even though Pitchford, 29, briefly pulled the score to 6-5, the Indian kept his composure to regroup and let his opponent earn just one more point before taking the lead 3-1. Sharath Kamal never slowed down in the fifth game as he had the momentum firmly on his side, which he used to win the match with a comfortable score of 4-1.
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran of India won the men’s singles bronze medal on Monday by defeating Paul Drinkhall of England 4-3. In the fourth game, G Sathiyan was up 3-0 and appeared poised to win it. However, Drinkhall pulled off a comeback and won the next three games were won by the world No. 74), adding excitement to the contest. G Sathiyan, who is rated 35th, had the last laugh after keeping his calm to win the decisive game 11-9.
