2022 Commonwealth Games Boxing Final Day Results, Performance of Indian Contingent, And Medal Winners
Nitu Ghanghas of Team India won the first gold medal of the day in the women’s minimumweight final. There were two boxers with very different fighting styles and heights in the ring, but Nitu was able to use her physical edge to defeat local boxer Demie-Jade Resztan by majority decision.
Later, Amit Panghal added to India’s early gold medal run when he triumphed in the men’s flyweight gold medal match by unanimous decision. The Indian fighter, who was clearly the more cunning of the two from the start, was methodical in his attacks, coming in from the outside and utilizing his agility to trap Macdonald and score several damaging hooks.
Zareen Nikhat defeated Carly NcNaul in the women’s flyweight championship match to win India’s third gold medal in as many matches. Ultimately, Nikhat won all three rounds unanimously to claim her maiden gold medal from the Commonwealth Games, while her rival was forced to accept a second consecutive silver medal.
Rosie Eccles of Wales was enraged as she chased the gold in the women’s light middleweight final and won it with a stoppage in the second round. In the men’s middleweight competition final, Sam Hickey of Scotland prevailed in a hard-fought bout. To win the gold, the 22-year-old Dundee native divided the judges 3-2. The men’s super heavyweight matchup that concluded the evening featured home favorite Delicious Orie, who prevailed by unanimous decision.
