The famous taking the knee gesture by Colin Kaepernick
What is now a widely recognized and practiced symbol of anti-racism across different sports all over the world, Colin Kaepernick first took the knee (a gesture against racism where an individual kneels upon one knee instead of standing in attention during the national anthem or for any other occasion) during the United States national anthem before a football match in 2016. He made a statement that he could not display pride in the country of a flag which tyrannized Black people.
Unfortunately, Colin’s actions resulted in the 49ers letting him go from the team and him eventually getting kicked out of NFL. The knee is now an extremely significant feature in Black Lives Matter protests, including those that took place post the murder of George Floyd.
