But it looks like Liverpool beat out their competitors to sign the 23-year-old winger. The transfer fee hasn’t been made public, but PSV said it will be a “record transfer” for the club. Before Hirving Lozano’s move to Napoli in 2019 for โฌ45m, this was the most money ever paid for a player.
ESPN has put forward the figure ยฃ37 million after speaking to sources closely associated with the deal, the figure could meanhile rise upto 50 million pounds in total including clauses and bonuses.
Details of the contract have not been made available yet but it has been confirmed that Gakpo will join Liverpool in the upcoming January transfer window. The deal is likely to be a six year contract. At PSV, Gakpo earns a salary of ยฃ19,000 per week but his fees at Liverpool is yet not disclosed.
“PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo,” PSV said in a statement released on Monday night. “
The attacker, who is 23 years old, is about to leave for England, where he will go through the necessary steps to finish the transfer.

Gakpo will be Liverpool’s third new front-line player in the past year. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were the other two. But Colombian forward Diaz is expected to be out for a long time after he hurt his knee again earlier this month during Liverpool’s training camp in Dubai.

Gakpo was born in Eindhoven, and he has spent his whole career so far at PSV. He came up through the club’s youth system and made his debut with the first team in February 2018. In all competitions, he has played 159 times for PSV, scoring 55 goals and setting up 50 others.
Cody Gakpo has played for the Netherlands since he was 18 years old. At Euro 2020, he got his first senior cap against North Macedonia. Since then, he has played for his country 14 times and scored six goals. He was one of the stars of the group stage in Qatar, where he was the first Dutch player to score in all three group games. The Netherlands were knocked out of the tournament in the quarterfinals when Argentina beat them in a dramatic shootout.
Gakpo is leaving PSV, which is third in the Eredivisie. In the Premier League, Liverpool is sixth, five points behind the top four.
