CM Punk May Return To Pro-Wrestling And Land A Spot At WWE’s Rival Promotion AEW

CM Punk chants are likely to reach their summit as the superstar is reportedly in talks to make a pro-wrestling return anytime soon.

Punk made his last pro-wrestling appearance in the 2014 Royal Rumble where he had claimed to have suffered a concussion following a spot with Kofi Kingston. Not much later, the former World Champion walked away from the company. Ever since then, WWE arenas have been filled with CM Punk chants, while he has tried his hands on some UFC stints and acting roles.

CM Punk To Make An AEW Return

Though he has been open about a return, nothing concrete has showed up till now. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the Best in the World has been in talks with AEW about a return to the pro-wrestling world. Though the report is only hypothetical as of now, WWE officials believe that Punk would land in the rival promotion AEW. Sean said that All Elite Wrestling is “the most likely landing point” for Punk.

Moreover, on a recent episode of Busted Open, AEW President Tony Khan teased that some big surprises were in store. And with AEW set to debut in a nearly sold-out Arthur Ashe Stadium as part of its New York debut, you never know. The Best in the World could might as well own the night without even saying, “I’m Back!”

After his infamous match in 2014, Punk made an appearance to WWE programming as a panelist on Fox Sports 1 show WWE Backstage in 2019. But this didn’t have any effect on the show’s viewership, which is why it was cancelled next year. He has openly expressed his frustration with WWE, ever since.

The company is obviously facing competition from AEW as big superstars like Dean Ambrose have already switched their workplaces for the same reasons mentioned by Punk. The recently released superstar Braun Strowman and Daniel Bryan, for whom WWE has no licensing or merchandising plans, are two other hotshots who may switch to AEW.

CM Punk’s Comments About His Frustration With WWE From Last Year

The prediction that Punk is likely to land at AEW matches perfectly with what he had said in an interview with Renee Paquette last year on Oral Sessions. Following is what he said about walking away from WWE and how that wouldn’t have happened if AEW had existed then.

“Because then they (WWE) probably would have approached me and been like, ‘Hey, your suspension is up. Ready to come back to work? Let’s work this out.’ Or handle it like any other sports organization would have handled [a] star pitcher f—ing going home.”

Punk also spoke on Colt Cabana’s podcast and claimed that WWE suspended him in January 2014 and didn’t speak with him before releasing him on the day of his wedding. Other issues also involved Punk suing the company and pushed to work hard when he was not at a 100%. If the rumors are true and Punk does returns to AEW, he would really be giving WWE the finger because his success as a pro-wrestling reincarnation is definitely assured.
