Echeverri Dealโs Worth
Following the footsteps of his compatriot and 2022 World Cup winner Julian Alvarez, 18 year old Echeverriโs move to City sparked rumors in the British media, speculating a deal worth 12.5 million pounds ($15.9 million) plus add-ons.
City are expected to pay $15.9 million initially with a further $9.8 million in add-ons related to Echeverri’s performances who signed on a six year contract but his salary isn’t known yet.
Echeverri, who captained Argentina at the under-17 World Cup in Indonesia in 2023, demonstrated his talent by scoring a hat-trick in the quarterfinal victory over Brazil. Despite the teamโs loss to eventual champions Germany in the semifinals, Echeverri earned praise from both soccer analysts and fans, earning him the moniker โthe next Messi.โ
Echeverri Admitted Being โNo Where Near Messiโ
Addressing comparisons to his idol Lionel Messi, Echeverri humbly admitted, โI always said that my idol was Messi, but Iโm nowhere near Messi!โ He also expressed admiration for Pablo Aimar, a member of the national team staff, who has provided valuable guidance to the young player.
Known as โthe next Lionel Messiโ in Argentina, Echeverriโs contract with City runs through 2028, but he will remain with River Plate until the end of 2024.
The talented player gained early recognition at the age of 11 when he went viral for dominating the Champions Trophy youth competition in Venice, scoring nine goals in seven games.
Echeverri emerged as a breakout performer in the 2023 under-17 World Cup in Peru, scoring five goals in seven games, including a memorable hat-trick against Brazil in the quarterfinals.
Following the footsteps of Julian Alvarez, Echeverri will complete the current season with River Plate before officially joining Pep Guardiolaโs team in January 2025. This move will place him in an elite offensive group alongside players like Kevin De Bruyne, Alvarez, and Erling Haaland.
