Christian Nicholas Braun is an American professional basketball player, born on 17 April 2001 in Burlington, Kansas, United States. Braun currently plays for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association. Prior to joining the NBA, Braun played college basketball at the University of Kansas. Braun played as a starter, and had a key role in helping his side win the 2022 NCAA Championship.

His mom Lisa Braun is part of a basketball family as she and her six siblings in the Sandbothe family, all of them All-State players who went to college on athletic scholarships, were inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame together in 2019.

The young Nuggets prospect primarily plays as a shooting guard or small forward and was a star at Blue Valley Northwest High School. During his senior season in high school, he averaged 27.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. He also led his squad to their third straight state title. Braun also won the title of Mr. Kansas Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year.

After finishing his high school, Braun received multiple Division I offers, and he eventually committed to Kansas. He played there for three seasons, featuring in the Big 12 All-Freshman Team during his first season with the Jayhawks.

As a junior, Braun averaged 14.1 points per game on 49.5 percent shooting, and was the team’s second-leading scorer. He featured in the All-Big 12 Second Team honors with the Jayhawks advancing to the championship game. During the final game of the NCAA Tournament against North Carolina, Braun recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds. His performances helped the Jayhawks capture their first ever NCAA title since 2007-08. Following their victory, Braun won the 2022 NBA Draft and was even selected by the Nuggets with the No. 21 overall pick.

While speaking about his experiences in both leagues, Braun said:

“It’s different, in the NCAA Tournament, it’s one game. There’s a lot of pressure on that one game, and here there are a lot of ups and downs. We’ve had series where we win two, we think we’re up 2-0, it’s a big lead and then you lose two in a row. It’s completely different, but the same pressure.”
