The Tamil Nadu government is set to make history by hosting South Asia’s inaugural Formula 4 night street race in Chennai on August 31 and September 1. Organized by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority (TNSDA) on behalf of the state government, this groundbreaking event will transform the city into a premier destination for nighttime Formula 4 racing.

On August 31, the event will commence with free practice sessions and a thrilling stunt display from 2:30 to 5:00 PM, followed by qualifying rounds that will run until 9:00 PM. The main event will start at 2:30 PM on September 1 and will continue until 10:00 PM. Although the race day will offer free morning access to spectators, the final race tickets will be available for purchase online, priced between Rs 1,699 and Rs 10,999. Free practice sessions will take place on August 31 from 2.30-5.00 pm, followed by a stunt show and the qualifying rounds will commence shortly after and continue till 9pm.
For spectators, entry to Grand Stand 1 will be through Gate 2 near Muthusamy Flyover. Entry for Grand Stands 2 to 5 will be through Gate 4 near Kalaivanar Arangam parking and parking for these entries has been arranged at the MMC Cricket Ground and Kalaivanar Arangam.
For Gold/Platinum, HMR/Sponsorโs Lounge, and Premium Lounge, entry will be through Gate 6 near Madras University, with parking available at Madras University and the seashore.
The Chennai F4 Night Race will unfold on a 3.5 km track that winds through some of the city’s most iconic locations, including the Island Grounds, War Memorial, Napier Bridge, Swami Sivananda Road, and Mount Road. Notably, this circuit is South Asia’s longest street circuit. To create this track, three segments of existing roads were removed and replaced with new roadways designed specifically for high-speed racing.
Races are being streamed live on FanCode, along with the Formula 4 races.
2024 Chennai F4 Night Race : ticket prices and guidelines
Reports suggest that the Chennai F4 Night Race is set to attract around 8,000 spectators lining both sides of the road, including dedicated racing enthusiasts and athletes. To enhance the nighttime experience, over a hundred high-voltage lights will be positioned on either side of the track, ensuring exceptional visibility and creating conditions akin to daylight.
To ensure a smooth and safe experience, attendees are reminded that certain items are prohibited. These include sharp objects, guns, large chains, pepper spray, pocket knives, and blades. Additionally, pets, loud musical instruments, laser lights, combustible materials, and outside food and beverages are not allowed.
