Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and Daniil Medvedev, the fifth seed, will face off on March 20 for the Indian Wells championship.

Alcaraz must triumph on Sunday in order to dethrone Novak Djokovic as the best player in the world.

Tiafoe was consistently outmatched by fifth-seeded Medvedev, who triumphed in all five of their meetings throughout the course of their careers, including 12 of 13 sets.

Alcaraz and Medvedev are now two of the most well-liked players on the tour, so it makes fitting that they will face off for the inaugural Masters 1000 title of the year.

Despite being classic baseliners, both players have good games, particularly on hardcourts. Both Alcaraz and Medvedev serve well, make powerful groundstrokes, and move well—the latter particularly so, given his 6-foot-6 size. The Russian is one of the top returners in the game.

Alcaraz, though, has a little advantage due to his extraordinary athleticism and ability to score from unlikely angles. He has improved significantly since facing Medvedev at Wimbledon two years ago and has won multiple Grand Slam and Masters 1000 titles.
