At the 2023 Canada Open, Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen stunned second-seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn to secure a straight-set victory by score of 21-18, 21-15. With this win, Sen has confirmed his place in the second-round, where he will face-off against Brazilian qualifier Ygor Coelho. During another first-round tie, Ygor defeated Sai Praneeth 21-12, 21-17 to seal his berth in the next round.

In the women’s singles, Indian ace PV Sindhu emerged victorious 21-16, 21-9 against Talia Ng to book her place in the second-round. It is confirmed that Sindhu will face-off against Japanese shuttler Natsuki Nidaira with a place in quarterfinal at stake. According to the official schedule, all the second-round matches will be played on Thursday including Akane Yamaguchi vs. Julie Jakobsen.

2023 Canada Open: prize money distribution

Because the Singapore Open is a BWF Super 500 event, each singles champion will get $31,500 from the $420,000 total prize fund. According to BWF, the losers from the singles category semifinal would each only receive $6,090, while the runner-up shuttlers in the singles category would each receive $15,960. Following his surprise first-round loss at the hands of Indian star Lakshya Sen, Thai ace Kunlavut Vitidsarn will exit the tournament with zero prize money.
