In the second day’s play in the Melbourne Test, Anrich Nortje, who was regularly clocking in the 150s, delivered a ball that struck Green in the finger. The physiotherapist arrived to see Green but later on, he had to leave the game due to an injury. Prior to getting hurt during South Africa’s first innings of the MCG Test, the 23-year-old Green collected a five-wicket haul.
He came back to bat on Wednesday and contributed an unbeaten 51 despite having a broken finger, becoming the first Australian to do so in four years. He also took five wickets in the same Test. Green will take some time off following the conclusion of the Melbourne Test before departing for the early-February tour of India, the board announced.
While it isn’t sure if he’ll make the trip to India for the international series, he is set to compete in the IPL after MI snagged him.
What did Green say about his return?
“Obviously, it hurts not to represent Australia. It will feel a little strange to watch Test cricket from home because I have participated in every match since I made my debut,” Green was quoted as stating.
“I’m going to miss it a lot since it’s a terrific environment to be a part of. I’m going to try to go to India and I’m going to do everything I can to get it right,” he said. “Many people discuss the India tour and how difficult it is on the body and mind.”
Green, along with David Warner and Mitchell Starc were injured during the MCG test. Starc suffered a finger injury during fielding. Warner, on the other hand, had to leave because of a cramping spell. Mumbai Indians purchased Green for $2.12 million at the most recent Indian Premier League auctions. On day one at the MCG, Green took a career-high five-wicket haul.
