2023 BWF World Championships singles category second-round results, draw, & performance of Indian shuttlers
With his comfortable straight-set victory by score of 21-11, 21-12 against Korean shuttler Jeon Hyeok-jin in the second-round of the 2023 BWF World Championships, Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has qualified for the third-round. Similarly, Indian ace HS Prannoy earned a statement win versus Indonesian Chico Wardoyo to qualify for the third-round. It is confirmed that Prannoy will face-off against Loh Kean Yew with a spot in the quarterfinal at stake and Lakshya Sen will clash against third-seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Although PV Sindhu has showcased signs of improvement in recent months alongside her new coach, she suffered an early exit at the 2023 BWF World Championships. On Tuesday, Sindhu clashed against Japanese shuttler Nozomi Okuhara and lost 14-21, 14-21 in the second-round to crash out from the competition. Following this result, Indian medal hopes from the women’s singles category has disappeared into thin air.
Meanwhile, Okuhara has now qualified for the third-round and is scheduled to play against seventh-seed Ratchanok Intanon with a quarterfinal berth at stake. To begin her 2023 BWF World Championships medal quest, top-seed An Se-young emerged victorious by score of 21-12, 21-14 against Goh Jin Wei. It is confirmed that An will face-off against Beiwen Zhang in the third-round.
