Reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen easily defeated Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the men’s singles final at BWF World Championships to reclaim the title he had previously won in 2017. Meanwhile, home favourite Yamaguchi Akane successfully defended her world title in a match against reigning Olympic champion Chen Yufei.

To defend her women’s singles championship, Japanese top-seed Akane Yamaguchi defeated Olympic champion Chen Yufei of China. In one hour and eight minutes, Yamaguchi defeated her opponent with a score of 20-12, 10-21, 21-14.
At the world championships, Chen Qingchen & Jia Yifan won their third gold medal after defeating South Korean opponents Kim Soyeong & Kong Heeyong in straight sets with a score of 22-20, 21-14. Meanwhile, Aaron Chia & Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia won the men’s doubles final match by defeating Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan & Hendra Setiawan in straight sets by scores of 21-19, 21-14.
After losing the first set by a score of 13-21, Watanabe Yuta and Higashino Arisa got off to a strong start in the second. However, Zheng and Huang swiftly regained control and successfully used their first match point to win 21-13, 21-16 in 41 minutes and reclaim their world championship in mixed doubles category.

Meanwhile, Japanese shuttlers wowed the home crowd and claimed three medals including one gold medal.
