PV Sindhu advanced to the BWF World Championships 2021 quarterfinals in the women’s singles with a straight-game win over Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand on Thursday
In a 48-minute pre-quarter final match, the world No. 7 defeated her Thai opponent, who was ranked three places below her, 21-14, 21-18 at the BWF World Championships.
With her win on Thursday, Sindhu improved her head-to-head record against Chochuwong to 5-3 in the showcase competition. She also avenged her losses against the Thai shuttler earlier this season, in a BWF World Tour Finals group match earlier this month and the All England Championships in March.

Sindhu will meet Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan, the top seed and world No. 1, who defeated Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland 21-10, 19-21, 21-11.
The last time these two shuttlers faced was in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics, when Sindhu was upset 21-18, 21-12 by the Taiwanese.
Tai Tzu won the silver medal, while Sindhu took home the bronze. It will be their 20th encounter in the quarterfinals, with the Taiwanese winning 14 times and Sindhu winning five.
