India’s HS Prannoy defeated Malaysia’s Daren Liew in straight games to advance to the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships 2021 round of 16 schedule
In a men’s singles second round match that lasted 42 minutes, Prannoy defeated his Malaysian opponent 21-7 21-17 at the BWF World Badminton Championships. In the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals of the showcase tournament, Prannoy joined two other Indians, Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen.
In the first game, Prannoy encountered little opposition from Liew. From 8-5, the Indian scored eight straight points to increase his lead to 16-5, which he easily pocketed. The second game was a little more competitive, with the two players tied at 6-6. Prannoy never trailed after that, cruising to a 16-11 victory.
The Malaysian closed the gap, but Prannoy went on to win the second game and the match, 19-16.
