In what can only be summed up as a historic event, Kidambi Srikanth has reached the final of BWF World Championships and is assured of a silver medal, at least. His semi final opponent Lakshay Sen, the youngest player there was defeated 17-21 21-14 21-17 and would take home a gold. This event also goes in history books because India is assured of two medals in the World championships.

While former world number one Srikanth has now given himself a realistic opportunity of winning the gold, Sen finished in third place, joining the likes of the legendary Prakash Padukone (bronze in 1983) and B Sai Praneeth (bronze in 2019) as Indian medalists at the showpiece.
It was a watershed moment not only for Indian badminton, but also for world No. 14 Srikanth, who has battled injuries and a loss of form since winning four Super Series titles in 2017 and missing the Tokyo Olympics this year.
Srikanth was a step ahead at first, but Lakshya managed to claw back at 4-4 and then at 6-6 with some brilliant shots.
