Viktor Axelsen, the world number one in badminton, withdrew from the Thailand Open on Thursday due to an injury incurred in last week’s Thomas and Uber Cup finals. After the early loss of the out-of-sorts former world champion Kento Momota, who crashed out in the first round on Wednesday, the top two seeds are gone.

Kidambi Srikanth, one of the protagonist of India’s historic Thomas Cup victory, was eliminated from the BWF World Tour Super 500 event in the men’s singles second round after giving his opponent a walkover. Srikanth, seeded seventh, granted his Irish opponent Nhat Nguyen a walkover. The reason for his withdrawal is unknown.
