The $500,000 Yonex Taipei Open badminton tournament will run from July 16 to July 24, 2022, at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gym. Even though Chinese Taipei had a lot of doubles teams, only the men’s doubles top-seeded team of Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin was able to advance to the final. None of any other duo from the category managed to qualify for the final of any doubles category event.

Olympic gold medalists from Taiwan Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin defeated Malaysia’s Boon Xin Yuan and Wong Tien Ci in the men’s doubles semifinals 21-10, 21-14 in a match that lasted 33 minutes. In the final, Lee and Wang will compete against the 36th-ranked Malaysian team of Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun.
The Taiwan Open semi-final loss today ended HOO Pang Ron-Toh Ee Wei’s chances of winning their first World Tour championship. The Malaysian mixed doubles team, who has only been competing together since the Indonesia Masters last month, fell to Hong Kong’s Reginald Lee-Ng Tsz Yau in three games, 21-17, 17-21, and 21-12. On Sunday, Reginald-Tsz Yau will compete for the title against Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong-Chasinee Korepap, who previously defeated Chang Ko Chi-Lee Chih Chen of Taiwan 21-15, 23-21 in the last four.

Points Award System
The Taipei Open BWF World Tour Super 300 competition will award points based on the BWF point distribution system for each round. Each doubles category competition would provide a total of 7,000 BWF points to the winners, and 5,950 BWF points to the eventual final losers. In the mixed doubles final, both duos aren’t seeded and hence both of them will stand a chance to rise in the BWF World Rankings courtesy of their achievements in the Taipei Open.

Prize Money Pool Distribution
The entire prize pool for the 2022 Taipei Open will be US$500,000 when the prizes are distributed in accordance with BWF regulations. The gold medal and $39,500 from this prize pool will go to the winner of the doubles tournament, while the silver medal and $19,000 will go to the second-place finisher.
