At the 2023 Swiss Open in Basel, Lee Zii Jia qualified for the quarterfinal stage despite best attempts from Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen, who managed to rattle the Malaysian ace on Thursday. Before the Malaysian delivered the decisive hit to clinch a 21-19, 21-15 victory, Nguyen managed to save three match points. Meanwhile, top-seed Viktor Axelsen overcame the challenge of Lin to qualify for the final eight and is scheduled to face-off against Popov.

As her dismal streak in 2023 continued, the defending champion Sindhu succumbed to defeat at the hands of Indonesian Putri Kusuma Wardani. Although Sindhu forced a decider after winning the second-set, she ultimately lost the game by scores of 15-21, 21-12, & 18-21. Prannoy had a terrible day on Thursday as he was soundly thrashed by Christo Popov with a score of 8-21, 8-21.

Each Swiss Open category winner will receive 7,000 BWF points, while the runner-up would receive roughly 5,950 points, according to BWF. The singles runner-up will receive $7,500 while the semifinal losers will only receive $3,045 each.
