In one hour and ten minutes, Srikanth—a former World Championships silver medalist—bested Weng Hong Yang of China 21-16, 15-21, 21-18. Meanwhile, eighth-seeded Sen succumbed to defeat at the hands of Lee Cheuk Yiu in their first-round tie by scores of 18-21, 11-21. Elsewhere, fifth-seed Prannoy defeated Shi Yu Qi by the score of 21-17, 19-21, 21-17 in a dramatic match that lasted one hour and four minutes. Following this win, Prannoy will face Frenchman Christo Popov, who defeated Kiran George 21-14, 21-15 in his first-round tie.
Viktor Axelsen, the current World and Olympic champion from Denmark, easily qualified for the second-round after his Indonesian rival Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo withdrew in the first-set due to injury. According to BWF, the winner of each Swiss Open category will receive 7,000 BWF points, while the runner-up will receive around 5,950 points. Lakshya Sen’s first-round loss can lead to his drop in the BWF World Rankings, as he bagged just 1,670 BWF points from this tournament.

2023 Swiss Open: prize money distribution
As Swiss Open is a renowned BWF Super 300 event, it has been reported that each singles category winner would receive $15,750 from the $210,000 total prize fund.
