P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, two legends of Indian women’s badminton, had quite different outcomes at the Malaysia Open Super 750 competition; the former advanced to the second round while the latter withdrew after dropping her opening match on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur. With her win, PV Sindhu has advanced to the second round of Malaysia Open while Saina Nehwal once again fails to deliver on the big stage.
Former world champion Sindhu put up a strong effort to defeat Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong, ranked 10th in the world in straight sets with a score of 21-13, 21-17. Meanwhile London Olympics bronze medalist Saina lost her match against American Iris Wang, ranked 33rd, 11-21, 17-21, in 37 minutes.

The BWF World Tour Super 750 competition’s point distribution for each round was determined using the BWF scoring system. The BWF awards 11,000 BWF points to women’s singles champions and 9,300 BWF points to runners-up.
