World number seven PV Sindhu is the seventh seed in 2022 Malaysia Open. In the opening round, she will compete against Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand. Sindhu is attempting to bounce back after suffering a humbling loss in the opening round of the Indonesia Open. However, Sindhu is set to face tough challenge as she is positioned in the same quarter as Tai Tzu-ying, the second seed and the winner of the Indonesia Open.

The only other Indian singles player in the draw is Saina Nehwal. Saina skipped both the Indonesia Masters and the Indonesia Open in order to focus on getting ready for the Malaysia Open. She will launch her campaign against Iris Wang of the USA. If she prevails in this match, Nozomi Okuhara, the sixth seed, is likely to be her opponent in the second round.
