While everyone anticipated that the higher-ranked pairs from Japan would defeat lower ranked duo of Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Anna Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing, the Malaysians turned up the heat, recording upset victories to advance to the quarterfinals at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil. Pearly-Thinaah defeated the world’s No. 2 Hirota Sayaka and Yuki Fukushima in straight sets to win 21-14, 21-19.
Meanwhile, Anna-Mei Xing exacted revenge on world No. 6, as they won in straight sets with a score of 21-11, 21-15 against Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara. In the last eight of Malaysia Masters tomorrow, Indonesia’s Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti will take on Pearly-Thinaah, who have achieved several significant victories this year.

The BWF World Tour Super 500 competition’s point allocation for each round was determined using the BWF scoring system. Each competition’s winners receive 9,200 BWF points, while the losers receive 7,800 BWF points. Competitors who wish to advance in the BWF World Rankings will definitely be motivated by the massive number of points up for grabs.
