Former world champion Carolina Marin collapsed in the quarterfinal of 2022 Japan Open against third-seeded An Seyoung after losing with a score of 18-21, 21-13, 17-21. Along with An, all four of world’s highest ranked female shuttlers have qualified for the semi-final, which is also a repat of last week’s BWF World Championship semi-final line-up.

Akane Yamaguchi, the two-time defending world champion from Japan, defeated Pornpawee Chochuwong on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Japan Open in Osaka to set up a rematch of the women’s singles final from the BWF world championships last week. Chen, the Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020, overcame Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 21-17, 21-6, and will compete against Yamaguchi.

Carolina Marin will have to wait until another day to earn her first tour victory since overcoming an ACL and meniscus tear, as the Spaniard was defeated by An Se Young in three games by scores of 21-17, 21-13, 21-18. In the semifinal, An Seyoung will take on Tai Tzu Ying, who defeated eighth-seed Ratchanok Intanon in straight sets with a score of 21-18, 21-19.

Points Award System

BWF point distribution method served as the foundation for the BWF World Tour Super 750 competition’s point allocation. Women’s Singles competition’s victor will receive 11,000 BWF points per the rules, while the runner-up will receive 9.350 points. The high amount of points up for grabs will be essential in establishing the BWF world rankings due to the proximity of the top-ranked women’s singles players.

Prize Money Pool Distribution

The total prize money for the 2022 Japan Open will be $750,000 when the awards are given out in compliance with BWF regulations. From this pot, $52,500 will go to the winner of the women’s singles competition, while $25,500 will go to the runner-up. Each singles semifinalist at the 2022 Japan Open will receive a total prize money of $10,500.
