Akane Yamaguchi, who triumphed against Chen in the BWF World Championships final last week in Tokyo, claimed another win against Chen at the Maruzen Intec Arena in Osaka by scores of 15-21, 21-16, and 24-22. Yamaguchi wasted two match points in the third game as Chen flipped the script on her. Before Yamaguchi sealed the deal in one of the most heated rivalries in the game, the two proceeded to swap match points for a while.

In the other semi-final Korean An Seyoung managed to hold-off Tai Tzu-ying, who dragged the match into third set despite losing the first. However, in the decider set, An dominated from the very start and won it by score of 21-13.

According to bookies, home favorite Akane Yamaguchi will be the clear favorite in the final due to her success recently and expertise competing on large stages. An Seyoung, however, will be inspired by her triumph over Tai and pull off another surprise to capture the coveted crown.
