After a hard-fought semi-final, Viktor Axelsen defeated Malaysia’s great Lee Zii Jia. The Olympic champion narrowly lost the first game 19-21, but won the second 21-11 to force a decider. Axelsen led 20-16 in the third set until Lee made a spectacular comeback with five straight points. After an hour and ten minutes, the Dane held his nerve and prevailed 23-21.
After winning the All England Championships in March, Axelsen will compete in his second consecutive Super 1000 final on Sunday. He’ll face Zhao Jun Peng of China, who beat India’s Prannoy H.S in straight sets with a score of 21-16, 21-15.
