Since its inception, the Indonesia Masters has been a staple fixture on the international badminton calendar. The history of the Indonesia Master, former champions, and performances of Indian players at the tournament are all detailed below.

History of Indonesia Masters Badminton and BWF Event Status

The Indonesia Masters began in 2010 and was originally known as the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold until 2014, when it was renamed Indonesia Masters. The First Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold 2010 took place in Samarinda, Indonesia, with a total prize pool of US$120,000.

Inodnesia Masters has been hosted in the Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta since 2018 and has a prize pool of US$350,000. The competition was elevated from a Super 500 to a Super 750 in 2021. However, for 2022 edition, Indonesia masters will take place as a Super 500 tournament with a prize pool of $3,60,000.

Indian Shuttlers in Indonesia Masters Badminton

Since the inception of Indonesia Masters, only two Indians managed to become champion in the event. Prannoy Kumar won the men’s singles tournament in 2014 and became the first Indian to become champion at Indonesia Masters. Later in 2019 Indonesia Masters, Saina Nehwal dominated the women’s singles category and was crowned the champion.

Indonesia Masters: Most Successful Countries

Since its beginning, Chinese and Indonesian shuttlers have dominated the Indonesia Masters. In the Indonesia Masters, China won a total of 12 titles across all categories, while Indonesia took home 25. Throughout the history of the Indonesia Masters, India has only won two titles.

The total prize pool for the 2022 Indonesia Masters will be US$360,000.
