Akane Yamaguchi and An Se-young, two of the best shuttlers in the world, will compete in the BWF German Open from March 7 through March 12, 2023. It is known that the contest will be conducted at Mülheim’s Westenergie Sporthalle and that a net payout of $210,000 will be awarded.

In women’s singles at the 2023 German Open, Malvika Bansod suffered humiliating straight-set loss by score of 13-21, 14-21 against world number six Wang Zhi Yi, while Tasnim Mir lost to eighth seed Thai star Pornpawee Chochuwong by score of 8-21 10-21. For Malaysian supporters, however, the women’s singles match in Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games gold medalist Goh Jin Wei defeated Lianne Tan of Belgium 23-21, 21-13 was better news.

2023 German Open: BWF points award system

According to the BWF, the winner of the German Open will receive 7,000 BWF points, and the runner-up will receive about 5,950 points. It is understood that each semifinal match’s losers will receive 4,900 points. Tasnim Mir and Malvika Bansod would only be awarded 320 BWF points because of their early exit from the competition.

2023 German Open: prize money distribution

German Open is a BWF Super 300 event, hence the prize pool is $210,000, with $15,750 going to each singles category winner. It is known that further $7,980 will go to the second-place finisher in this illustrious competition, and $735 will go to each second-round qualifier. Tasnim Mir and Malvika Bansod won’t be returning home with any prizes after dropping their respective first-round matches.
