Following an encouraging performance that saw them win Group Y, expectations were high for them to repeat the feat at the Setia City Convention Centre on Saturday (Feb 19).
Even the second-stringers from South Korea, led by world No. 49 Sim Yu-jin, proved too hot for the Malaysian shuttlers.
S. Kisona, the SEA Games winner, blew a 10-4 lead in the second game to lose 16-21, 17-21 in the inaugural singles.

Baek Ha-na-Seong Seung-yeon then extended the Korean lead by winning a strong 21-15, 21-14 match against Pearly Tan-Valeree Siow in a duel of two scratch pairings.
Siti Nurshuhaini Azman, 17, put up a strong performance, but it was not enough to beat Lee Se-yeon in the second singles.
She gave it her all but lost 11-21, 21-15, 21-13.
South Korea, the runners-up in 2020, will try to improve on their performance when they face Indonesia in the title match on Sunday (Feb 20).
After being given a walkover by Japan, the Indonesian team did not even have to lift their rackets in the other semi-finals.
