The 2024 Boston Marathon, held on April 15, 2024, marked the 128th official edition of the renowned race in Boston, Massachusetts. As a Platinum Label marathon, it was one of six World Marathon Majors events slated for 2024. A total of 30,000 participants were allowed, selected from a pool of 22,019 based on their performances in qualifying events. This year saw a record-breaking 33,000 applicants from 127 countries vying to run the race.

Obiri finished in two hours, 22 minutes, and 37 seconds, securing her second consecutive victory in Boston after winning last year. Sharon Lokedi, also from Kenya, came second, just eight seconds behind. Lokedi finished the race in 2:22:45, with Edna Kiplagat, a two-time Boston winner (2017, 2021), coming in third at 2:23:21. Kenyan runners dominated the podium, taking all three top spots.

In the men’s race, Lemma took an early lead, breaking away from the pack after just 20 minutes. Despite the challenges of Boston’s tough course and running solo for most of the 42.195 kilometers, Lemma maintained his lead. Mohamed Esa from Ethiopia finished second in 2:06:58, followed by Evans Chebet in third place with a time of 2:07:22. In the wheelchair categories, Marcel Hug claimed victory for men, while Eden Rainbow-Cooper took the top spot for women.

Boston Marathon 2024: prize money and winners list

At the 2024 Boston Marathon, the winners of the men’s and women’s races pocket $150,000 each, while second place grabs $75,000 and third place earns $40,000. In the wheelchair division, the top finishers will get $40,000, second place takes $25,000, and third place receives $12,000.
