Dave Chisnall ended a three-year wait for his 16th ranking title by winning the Belgian Darts Open on Sunday in Wieze after defeating Andrew Gilding by score of 8-6 in a nail-biting final.

Of the thirteen PDC European Tour competitions on the 2022 PDC Pro Tour, Belgian Darts Open was the twelfth. The competition took place from September 23–25, 2022, at the Oktoberhallen in Wieze, Belgium. There were 48 players in the field, and the winner took home £25,000 out of the £140,000 in prize money.

Since his own attempt at the 2019 Gibraltar Darts Trophy, Chisnall’s first nine-darter on the European Tour came in the opening leg of his 7-4 semifinal victory over Danny Noppert. Then, by winning the final 8-6, six-time TV tournament finalist Chisnall prevented Andrew Gilding from winning his first championship.
To get to the finale, both players had put on brilliant performances all weekend. In front of an enthusiastic Oktoberhallen crowd, they created an interesting decider. The most impressive play of the game was a 136 checkout by Gilding that brought the score within 6-7. However, Chisnall held throw to land double 19 and avoid a last-leg decider to notch his third European Tour championship.
Gilding, who had previously participated in the Betfred World Matchplay in July, has confirmed his spot in the BoyleSports World Grand Prix for October as a result of his sustained outstanding performance in 2022. Gilding advanced to his first European Tour final by defeating Niels Zonneveld, Martin Schindler, and Jonny Clayton after prevailing against Belgian number one Dimitri Van den Bergh in the second round on Saturday.
The PDC European Tour will resume with the Gibraltar Darts Trophy from October 14-16 at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar, where 48 players will clash against each other for the crown in the 13th and final European Tour event of 2022.
