The governing council has revealed that Rahul Dravid has been named as the new head coach of Team India
What every ardent cricket lover in India yearned for over the course of the year has finally come to fruition. Ever since Ravi Shastri had made it known that the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 would be his last project as the head coach of Team India, all the noise clamored for the appointment of Rahul Dravid.
Having worked wonders at the NCA, Dravid’s exceptional showings with Indian cricket and starlets of the sport in the country, Dravid was BCCI’s first choice as well for the job. And while Dravid had initial qualms about taking over the role, he finally sent in his application, a move which all but asserted that he would be taking over from Shastri when he stepped down.

Its a move the BCCI affirmed as well on Wednesday during India’s showdown with Afghanistan at the marquee world cup. Dravid was appointed as the new coach of the Indian cricket team by the Cricket Advisory Committee which is made up of Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh.

Dravid will be at the helm of the Indian side come the forthcoming series against New Zealand in India. While the BCCI didn’t dwell into the salary Dravid will be drawing, its envisaged he will be paid a staggering Rs.10 crore per annum for a two year contract.
“The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of India’s senior men team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has also served Indian cricket as Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) with distinction,” BCCI president Ganguly said.
