India suffered its first defeat when it played Nepal at the 2023 SAFF U20 Women’s championship. Here is what’s next for the country along with the results and score.
Tuesday’s 1-3 loss to Nepal at the Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Bangladesh dealt India a setback in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship.
SAFF U20 Women’s Championship 2023 India vs Nepal: As it happened
Early on in the game, the young Blue Tigresses were aggressive, and shortly after the 20-minute mark, they made a breakthrough.
Sumati Kumari was freed as three Nepali defenders were drawn to Kajol D’Souza, who subsequently passed it to her on her left.
Sumati, charging into the box, transferred the ball to Apurna Narzary, who expertly placed it in the goal to give India the lead. Despite falling behind in the first half, Nepal picked up the pace after the break and produced more chances in the final third.
The equaliser appeared quickly after that. Amisha Karki stole the ball from the goalie after Shubhangi Singh’s backpass to Anshika, who then passed it to Anjali Chand, who put the ball in the back of the net.
After an hour had passed, Anjali took part in another development that altered the course of the game. Nepal was awarded a penalty kick after Astam Oraon’s late kick in the box entirely missed the ball and landed on Anjali’s feet.
Anshika went the right way, but Captain Preeti Rai stepped up to place it in the bottom left corner. With barely two minutes of regulation time remaining, Nepal ended the match when Preeti outran her marker, Hemam Shilky Devi, and crossed the ball for Amisha for a straightforward tap-in.
