It’s no secret that Indian filmmakers adore using Kashi or Varanasi (also known as Banaras), one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in the world recognised for its spiritual tradition, as the backdrop for their films. The city represents the extremes of Hinduism: life and death.
In Jayathirtha’s Banaras, the city takes on a personality and changes throughout. The director, who is renowned for creating socially conscious content, has decided to develop a time-travel picture that is also a moving love story.
Story Plot
The flamboyant and outgoing Siddarth (Zaid Khan), the son of a successful businessman (Devaraj), enters the picture pretending to be an astronaut and a time traveller to win Dhani’s (Sonal Mantero), a career-focused student with aspirations to become a reality show star. In actuality, Siddarth befriends her in order to help his pals win a wager.
But Dhani suffers greatly as a result of his misadventure, and her career and aspirations are hampered. After Siddarth’s photo of her bedroom becomes popular on social media, she is denigrated by society. Dhani, hurt by this, departs Bengaluru and goes to live with her uncle in Banaras.
On the instruction of his father (Devaraj), Siddarth travels to Banaras in search of Dhani. Siddarth eventually locates Dhani and begs her for forgiveness after a protracted search with the aid of Shambu (Sanjay Shastry), a photographer who specialises in taking photos of dead people. Even if more than just a plunge into the Ganga is needed to forgive something like this, things change when Dhani admits her love for Siddharth.
However, as the narrative jumps back and forth in time, all of this occurs, and during the commotion, Siddarth discovers the most important lesson of his life.
