2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships schedule, date, venue, groups, teams, & draw
The Indian women’s team will secure a spot in the quarterfinals, regardless of their performance against Chinese shuttlers, as two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout round. PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, and HS Prannoy, a bronze medallist at the World Championship, are paving the way for both the women’s and men’s teams. Sindhu has been out with a knee injury since the French Open in October last year.
In the women’s singles category, promising players such as 16-year-old Anmol Kharb, will participate, along with Tanvi Sharma and Ashmita Chaliha, both medalists in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships. Leading the Indian men’s team in Group A for the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships are HS Prannoy and the doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who face a challenging draw against China and Hong Kong.
For the men’s league stage, Malaysia, the host, has a favorable draw in Group B with Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, and Brunei. Leading their campaign is Lee Zii Jia, the 10th-ranked player in the world. Group C consists of Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar, while Group D includes Indonesia, Republic of Korea, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia; Group C is widely considered the most challenging.
In the women’s draw, Malaysia is in Group Y with Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Group X comprises Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan. Group Z is anticipated to have intense matchups, with Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Singapore fiercely competing. The top four semifinalists in both the men’s and women’s continental team championships will earn direct entries to the 2024 Thomas Cup and 2024 Uber Cup.
