On Friday, India qualified for the semi-final of the 2023 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships after defeating Hong Kong 3-2 in Dubai, securing their first-ever medal. Following this win, India has made it to the semifinal of this prestigious competition for the first time and bagged their first-ever medal in the tournament’s history. Additionally, India has sealed their berth in the Sudirman Cup 2023, which will take place in China later this year.

2023 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships: India vs Hong Kong result, winner, standings, score, & match summary

Ishaan Bhatnagar & Tanisha Crasto, who were competing in mixed doubles match, lost against Lee Chun Hei Reginald & NG Tsz Yau in straight-set by scores of 24-26, 17-21. Lakshya Sen then faced off against Ng Ka Long Angus, but despite a good start, he ultimately lost by scores of 22-20, 19-21, & 18-21. In the crucial match for India, the impromptu men’s doubles team of Chirag Shetty & Dhruv Kapila triumphed over Tang Chun Man & Yeung Shing Choi. After their outstanding performance, the Indian men’s doubles team won the match 20-22, 21-16, 21-11 to keep their country in the competition.

After overcoming an early setback, India’s top player PV Sindhu eventually defeated Saloni Mehta by scores of 16-21, 21-7, & 21-9 to force a decider. India’s Gayatri Gopichand & Treesa Jolly defeated Hong Kong’s Ng Tsz Yau & Ng Wing Yung 21-13, 21-12 in the women’s doubles match to deliver the knockout blow and earn India’s first-ever semi-final berth in the championship.
